Does anyone know what the deal is with not being able to talk about the show? I mean, after you audition, are you not allowed to say anything or is that just after you get so far? I've seen something like that but in the hundreds of articles, I forget who said what. I'd like to hear from someone from Season 1 if possible.

Thanks

Hello DaddyMathis,

We were able to talk about the show right up until we made it in front of the judges. That is when the confidentiality contract was put in to place. When those of us that were in the top 24 went home, the top 12 stayed in L.A. for an additional 6 weeks to develop their product with the $50,000. We could not even tell our relatives or closest friends what the outcome was. ABC and others do this to keep the shows fresh and so everyone watches to find out. The more people that watch, the happier the advertisers are. It was difficult to keep everything quiet. It was a nice 6 weeks though. The local media ate it up. We were on talk shows, radio shows and the news. Everyone was intrigued in our Milwaukee news market because two of us(myself and Jodi Pliszka)were in the finals. Jodi and I knew it would be a big hometown story when she and I met in Hollywood. It was neat. Jodi came back from L.A. after she did not make the top 4. She was secretly at a viewing party I was holding with family and friends. When everyone found out I was voted off, Jodi stood up and I introduced her to the crowd and our local ABC network affiliate, channel 12. Everybody was disappointed for me, but happy that Jodi was in the room with us.

Thanks Pat. I can understand that they'd want to keep everything a secret. So they narrow it down to the top 12 pretty quick right...(the first couple of days in Hollywood)????

During that 6 weeks of development time, are you allowed to go home at all? I don't know if I could stay away for 6 weeks straight.

We first went to L.A. in January. That was the top 350. We went in front of the judges, received our 4 yes votes and then were in the top 50. We spent 2 days there and then flew home for a few weeks. The second time in Hollywood lasted 5 days, so it went from 50 to 12 in just a few days. They were long days sometimes up to 18 hours each day. The final 12 last year was only able to go home once for 24 hrs. and they were accompanied by a field producer and camera crew. Basically, it was to say goodbye to their families and do a background story. All of their calls were monitored by a producer as well as dinner, liesure, etc....
Although long, most of them felt it was worth it because of the development of their product.
