Scrupulous,
Nice link! I have been looking at traffic patterns myself and found we spend far too much time in the stop and go mode as well. There is a ton of wasted energy having to stop and go.
I have proposed corridors in the past. If you have to stop...I would rather wait and idle for a few extra minutes knowing if I get on the corridor that it will funnel me through without stops. Corridors will be major routes in and out of cities. This will help flow of traffic move people out and through while saving tons of time and energy costs. The corridors allow traffic to move in their directions for extended periods.
It seems, the department of transportation is locked into this hold traffic back and don't let them get too far before stopping them- all over the country. I think they should be held accountable for a good portion of our use of fossil fuels on the road. How dare they not be open to change...the world certainly needs it.
