Hello all, never thought i would be joining an "inventor" forum! I read most of the FAQ section over the last two days and found helpful and confusing all at the same time so please bare with me on this post explaining my situation.
About three years ago i had my idea for a thing that helps another tool work better. My gadget is a very simple plastic (PP) thing that has very low volume and can most likely be made in a two or three piece mold. I made a make shift prototype to test its usefulness back at the time of conception and by golly it really works well..so much that given the choice of tools i still reach for that one to use daily. Im not in love with my idea, im in love with the way it works. here is were im at today.....i broke down and made a 3D cad drawing on my wifes pc and am about to cast a plastic prototype using a rubber mold and a model made from various material to show functionality. I am a POOR inventor..i want to get this out there somehow in the right way so i bought "inventors notebook" and started documenting my steps. I really do not want to make this myself and sell it, or farm out manufacturing i really would rather sell outright or percentage of sales..ie..License it. The company that makes the tool it will attach too could be a likely contact although they are in China. I don't mean to sound ignorant but i have seen and heard of china companies taking no interest in global patent protection so were do you folks sugest i go from here? keep in mind i have really low funds.
thanks for any input! o and by the way....i work in this niche field were this tool would be used and i feel it is marketable. but will someone else...lol

Hi Copart:

I would look closely at the recommendations of Ed Zimmer shared in this forum post.

Basically, you should go research potential licensing partners and approach them with your idea, following the suggestions for the smart steps along the way as suggested by Ed.

In general, the Forums really supplement and add details to the inventing process. For new inventors, I always suggest they start with Myra's invention blog and the other info on our Inventor Information pages.

Good luck and it is good to have you on our site.
