I have spent many sleepless hours thinking about this idea I have. There has only been one person I have talked to about it who worked at a university who dealt with patents and ideas. Long story short, he told me that the idea was not patentable and suggested I should try and manufacture and distribute it without the patent which is apparently common according to an online source. My problems are:
1.)I am very limited in money and resources
2.)I can't get anyone to respond to me because I can't tell them my idea without compromising my safety. Asking them to sign a disclosure form seems to be a hassle...
3.)I don't know where to go or who to go to

I desperately need solutions. It's such a simple idea, I just need someone who can manufacture and distribute custom plastics and is of course ethical and trustworthy. Any help from people who know what there doing and talking about is greatly appreciated. I hope you all find success

I know some people with experience in plastics molding and I would be happy to sign an NDA as I don't consider it a hassle at all. You can shoot me an e-mail at jackbnimble56@yahoo.com and attach a signed NDA. Good luck to you!

Hi Ayndrew,

If you want customer plastic parts made cheap, getting them made in china might be an option worth considering.

Like everyone else they will need drawings, though. 2D and 3D is best. A BOM can help a lot too.

However, you can get someone to inspect a factory for you to make sure they are capable and most are willing to sign an NDA if required – if one won’t another one will.

When working with a Chinese factory you should always try to maintain a good working relationship. Many factories will try to help you more than a lot of others. Some will even suggest additional places to sell your product. They want to make as many of your products as possible.

Another thing you need to consider if choosing to manufacture in China is the shipping costs. If the part is large or bulky then the costs of shipping will go up.

Finally, take a look at this article I wrote on ezines.com: http://ezinearticles.com/?Inventions---Combining-Your-Business-Plan-Development-With-Your-Product-Development-to-Minimize-Risk&id=2225283. It gives some good ideas on how to combine funding with development so that you don’t need to spend too much of your own money.

Good luck with it all. Let me know how you go.

Dear Andrew

Congratulations on your invention.

Since your idea is not patentable you may consider a trademark.

The right name can help sell a product.

You are looking for a plastics manufacturer. A mold will be expensive.
The break even number could be in the thousands.

You may consider machining the plastic from a solid. This will have a much lower start up cost.
Another advantage is you can manufacture as you sell product. Design changes and improvements
are simpler. With a mold you are stuck with that design. Most design changes require a new mold.
Massive success to you
