What's to keep any unengaged pistons from settling when the engine is stopped? And if they settle onto the springs, the first gear that starts from TDC to push the piston down is going to find one very hard to move piston. Scratch one engine. I strongly suggest talking to a mechanical engineer, who can explain all the problems in the design.

Check out the responses at the links he provided. Some smart dudes over there, but we're all in agreement it wouldn't work for prettymuch the same reasons.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I couldn't help wondering why anyone would provide links to other forums where their ideas were being resoundingly trounced by the resident intellectuals.
