After arriving in Chicago and heading over to the pier my boyfriend and I got there at about 5 in the morning. By that time we were pretty close to the front of the line and met some pretty neat people with interesting ideas and inventions. I made it to the second round with my idea for keeping CD''s and DVD's scratch free.....they didn't think it was original enough ( although I DO have a patent pending )....anyway it was fun and I do plan to KEEP AT IT!!! We talked with some cool people in the holding rooms for the second round and felt like their was potential for some ( and NOT others...). Our favorite people was a family with a dog, and the invention seemed to be a pet restraint of some kind. They went into the second round and we know they moved on but wanted to see if anyone knows what happened after that?? We are hoping they do well...
There was also a guy with some software idea for a learning game, he was nice too, we are also hoping he did ok with the judges. Well please let us know..good luck to all.........

How long did the whole process take for you and your boyfriend that day in Chicago? Was it more than one day? I am trying to decide if I want to go to the Houston audition. Obviously everyone has had different experiences at each site.

If you only make it to the second round like I did it takes all day. If you are invited back for the 3rd round they will ask you to stay an additional 2 days to meet with the judges. I too was near the front and saw the dog restraint and Asian man with his buddy wearing the foam helmet prototype make it through the 2nd round in Chicago. To be honest I feel they wanted the Asian man to advance because he is animated and fits the wacky inventor persona they are looking for and I'm not sure if they care about what he invented.

To be honest I feel they wanted the Asian man to advance because he is animated and fits the wacky inventor persona they are looking for and I'm not sure if they care about what he invented.

Now you're beginning to get the picture! What they want is an entertaining television show. They only need one or two "good" inventions. The rest must have either a whacky invention/persona, or fit a profile of who advances to the final rounds. This is more about auditioning in the "blind" than presenting an invention. If the public knew they were looking for "the immigrant" trying to make it in America, or the husband/wife team trying to raise money for their children's education, or the "motivator" who will make his invention work at all costs...then most of them would stay home, and there wouldn't be the massive turnout that makes for good reality TV.

Oh yes, we saw the Asian guy too...and he was very nice and fun to be around, fit the "profile" for wacky inventor for sure. So you say he and the dog restraint team made it through? Does that mean they saw the celeb judges? I would like to see the dog family go far, they seemed to really have something with that prototype. Maybe they have a good combo for T.V. ( good idea + nice faimliy + family pet...). I am sorry for those of us who didn't go as far as we thought we should. I just try and keep it positive and hope that whoever moves on really deserves it and has a great product for the market.
