Yeah, but it would be the better products that would have anything to do with making the show a legitimate enterprise.

"As seen on..." would simply be a true statement.

By the way, I think your Take-a-seat rocks, 5rocks. :)

Why not have a new show next year which would perplex thousands of serious gourmet chefs? Yeah , yeah, you could promote the show as trying to find the next best gourmet foods for the fancy restaurants. The search for the next greatest and best tasting dishes. Then, at the auditions, only advance new recipes like peanut butter and bologna sandwhiches with mayo and mustard, tuna milkshakes or raw egg and onion soup. Maybe make it not look too stupid and throw in a few decent dishes like fried bologna and cheese (oops already cooked that back in the 70's). O.K. , the winner could maybe be a sirloin steak stuffed with cheesey potatoes. Maybe we could get an eatery to put that last item on thier menu.

mojo62,

I hear ya. It's a shame the show has come to this. They obviously only screened for freaks and people with an emotional backstory = fireman. The quality of the inventions let through was horrible. The actually screening of the goofy people was the most appauling as most of the "inventiors" who made it through obviously just came up with the idea for american inventor and didn't even google to see the 100 or so patented products already invented that they would be infringing upon. It's sad to see people who can only understand one aspect of what it takes to succeed. They hold on to the idea that if you try hard enough you will succeed no matter what but in reality that only applies if you have a good idea in the first place. I'm positive the "carbib" that they passed through had been invented prior to the show and the lady who made it to the next round wasn't the original inventor. Secondly there is no way in hell they could get any kind of meaningful protection for the idea since so many bib's have been patented for various applications. It just makes me mad to see a show that portrays inventors in such a horrible light.

I think a lot has to do with ABC's onerous contracts. If you really have a good invention, do you really want to risk a big company like ABC and Peter Jones getting the exclusive rights to it forever as the winner's contract states? They don't even tell you what kind of license terms you might get. For all you know, you've signed it all away for that $1 million, most of which you'll need to get it to market. It's almost like the ripoff recording contracts most musicians get.

I'm astounded that went through to begin with. It's a simple, obvious idea and in no way an invention. The little, old lady last year with the disposable hospital bedsheets idea was much better than this, and she didn't get as far.

I just had a great idea. I call it the "Airport Lounge Bib". I was recently in an airport lounge, and I couldn't believe the number of people who were eating food. Many of these people were wearing expensive business attire that could have been permanently stained if food were to get on it. I'm talking about katsup (ketchup), mustard, and coffee. I think there should be an airport chair with a bib dispenser built right into the arm or back. My next idea will be for the "Bathroom Bib"...I'm just not sure how many people eat in the bathroom while shaving like I do!

RSG,
You need one of those "'Sit-n-Shaves" with a bib dispensor built in.
There you go! An improvement on an existing product. Hey that one should make the cut next year !! Wanna go in together on it ?

Mojo...Let's do it. YOU go ahead and get the patent applications started, and I'll start contacting toilet seat cover manufacturers (no reason the same thing couldn't dispense toilet seat covers as well as bibs...maybe even have a full condiment bar too...). What do you think about a hat with a bib dispenser built into the visor? Ooops, there I go with the public disclosure already...damn I hate when I just blurt things out!

The show is a BUST.

The only sad thing is that the show is making all the Invetors look crazy & wacky so that the general public will not take Inventors seriously in the future.

I hope this web site finds away to saves all of us.

I think even thinking that our website can have some remote impact is pretty cool...but unfortunately, probably unrealistic.

I'm still hoping the show gets better once the wacky beginning part is done like with American Idol.

More serious as episodes continue...

Like season1, the show starts off with wacky inventors/inventions to draw more viewers. I'm sure we will see better inventions as the competition progresses. What I HOPE is that they don't REPEAT inventions, such as the Therapy Buddy, and others that have already been voted off, because that's a waste of time. I'd rather see other inventors with their inventions. Season1 was known for repeating certain inventions over, and over, and over, and over(like the lady with the repeating CD message "Time to get up!!!") uuggghhh!!!...Some great inventors/inventions were never shown at all! :(

It's true that this show ridicules most inventors, but if you think about it, the average inventor's "great idea" is most likely: 1) already patented or 2) downright unprofitable/not marketable. This just goes to show that being successful at inventing is very, very difficult...statistics will prove that only a small percentage of inventors ever make a profit from their invention. As for me, I'm still in the red, but am making progress and learning alot of new things along the way. It is the most challenging, yet the most personally rewarding journey that I have taken. -Wade
