I am not new to ideas, been having them all my life, but I am relatively new to the 'pursuit' of actually marketing an invention. I will NEVER deal with an invention promotion company. First, are usually a front for a patent agent or patent attorney, am I right? It is in their best interest to perpetuate the myth that jumping into the patent process is the FIRST thing to do with an idea, that way they can immediately start milking fees from their client for patent searches and filings, etc. Second, they promote themselves as a conduit to manufacturing so that the product is actually made. This yields lots of very expensive doorstops, aka prototypes. Am I correct on this? BMSE, Roger?

You're partially correct.

The real problem is with the promotion companies supposedly "promoting" your idea when they steal your money instead, along with several other victims' money. When the time is right they clear out of town and set up shop again somewhere else. Then they do it all over. It's just your "standard" con job from scumbags that make a living out of human misery.

If you read the report from Inventor Ed, he'll give you the alias fronts that some of them used in the past. Some of these guys are on the wanted lists of the government fair trade organizations.

There has been some great progress recently in the protection of inventors.

For one, one of the most notorious of the big scam companies got penalized by the fed to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. I need to go dig that reference up.

I think there is also much better information out there for new inventors, like our site. Problem is how to get that info to the inventor before the scam companies do. Having a popular well known place to get your info can help, we think but we are still working on popular and well-known.

The weird thing is you go to the invention scam sites and they will actually have a section on "scam companies". I find it very ironic. It's also really hard to tell sometimes who the bad guys are. When we try to do research about companies, it's sometimes impossible to tell, so a handy place to reference it is important.

We have a section on scam companies to watch out for in our Helpful Websites section

Thanks for the additions. I think we have them all but I will post any that we are missing. Thanks!!
