I get approached by Inventors all the time asking for help with their invention idea. They want me to look at their sell sheet or basic concept and give them my opinion on the idea. They swear they have looked and there is nothing on the market like their idea. It is unique and going to make them a lot of money.
We sign a nondisclosure and they send me the material either via snail mail or internet. Then comes the moment of truth when I see the idea that is going to make them rich. My next action is to write them an email saying their idea is on the market already and some have been on the market for years. Yet, they swore they looked everywhere, online, in stores, in catalogs and couldn’t find one thing even close to their idea. That is why they know it is going to be a hit worth millions.

Now, they have gotten my email telling them the bad news and they are responding back. Some are crushed, some are frustrated about the money they have already spent for nothing, others are pissed and question whether I had parents, and some don’t bother to respond. The one thing they all have in common is they did not REALLY take the time to research their idea.
I am not saying they have to have the skill to do a detailed patent search. I am talking about doing a basic search for example if your idea is a “Glow in the dark Dog leash” take 2 minutes and go to a computer and type in “Glow in the dark Dog leash” in Google. Don’t type in bicycle repair and expect “Glow in the dark Dog leash” to show up. Because this seems to be what a large majority of them do.

I have been keeping a list since January of the ideas people have sent me that they swear did not exist until they thought of it, but was already on the market. Look at this list below and see if you can, off of the top of your head recognize these items. I am putting this list here so hopefully someone that is thinking about these items will see that they do already exist.
Please take the time to REALLY look for your product idea and see if it exists before you spend any money on it.

Suntan lotion applicators for the back, disposable straws, disposable shoe covers, remote control and key finder device/FOBs, dog pooper scooper, organizers that hang over the back of a car seat, colored sand, baby wipes, baby changing stations for restrooms, proximity alarms to protect children from walking away form parents in stores, anti-RFID wallet, motion and sound activating sensor for outside lights, toilet seats that have lights under them so you can pee at night without turning lights on, tabs on the side of the toilet lid to lift it, automatic dog feeding bowl, alarm clock with alarm and snooze buttons, wetness indicator on diapers, battery powered zapper fly swatter, sock clips, bands or snaps so you don’t lose them in washer/dryer, non-spill paint can rims, underwater cameras, glow in the dark vests for bikers, self-propelled lawnmower, solar powered water heater, battery powered fans, really quick drying strong glue.

Here are some more we can add to the list of "these already exist" but Inventors don't bother to do any research before they file paperwork for a PPA.

Double sided knife blade, cooling vest for dogs, weedless hook for fishing, Eco-friendly reuseable grocery bags, fold-out table, automatic cat litter box.

Just so everyone understands if you walk into Wal-Mart and don't see your idea in the store it does not mean it does not exist. It means Wal-Mart doesn't carry it.
Wal-Mart carries a lot of products, but they do not carry every product made on the planet.
