Who is an Inventor?
Is it the person who comes up with the idea?
Is it the person who makes the idea into a usable product?
Is it the person who refines and perfects the product?
Is it the person who mass-produces the product so more people can afford to buy it?
Is it the person who markets the product & makes it available to the people who need it?
What's your opinion?

I think the graphic artist should get most of the credit.
They make it look good, they create the logo, tag lines, they make it appealing to purchase...make it look complete when it may not be. They usually give someone the most valued first impression of the concept and create that impulse purchase or defined reason to make the thought out purchase.
They take the concept to the next level above other simular items in the market and sets you above the rest. They can make you appear the leader in the market with the first product run.
yeah....graphic artist...yep, most of the credit!

You can come up with many ideas and not do anything with it.
If you make that idea into a usable product you can call yourself an inventor.
Refining and perfecting the product would be the engineers role.
Mass producing and marketing does not qualify as an inventive step.

I would say inventors are number 1 and 2, it's all about ideas. 3 is engineer, 4 and 5 are business man. There is no more or less important role.

In some professions you must be able to make a living at your profession before you can claim "official" status. I hear this about writers and actors.
In other professions a certification is required, like doctors or real estate agents, before you can practice.

I don't think an inventor is one who comes up with an idea only.
To me, you actually have to create it, in prototype and make it work before you are an inventor.
Edison, if he said, it would be great if we had a device to carry electricity and cast light is great. I bet you can do that with copper wire, would not be an inventor to me. He is an inventor because he worked out the problem and figured out the solution.
Otherwise, aren't you just a creative thinker? or visionary?

That hurts Da Vinci's status a lot. Many of his inventions only exist on paper through his life time.
I wonder if there are words in English that separate inventor as occasion hobbyist and professional inventor?
