I just received an email that made me laugh. It is relevant to what we do as inventors, so I thought I'd just share it with you all.

Mensa is an organization whose members have an IQ of 140 or higher. A few years
ago, there was a Mensa Convention in San Francisco and several members lunched
at a local cafe.

While dining, they discovered that their salt shaker contained pepper and their
pepper shaker was full of salt. How could they swap the contents of the bottles
without spilling and using only the implements at hand? Clearly, this was a job
for Mensa!

The group debated and presented ideas and finally came up with a brilliant
solution involving a napkin, a straw and an empty saucer. They called the
waitress over to dazzle her with their solution.

"Ma'am," they said, "we couldn't help but notice that the pepper shaker contains
salt and the salt shaker..."

"Oh," the waitress interrupted. "Sorry about that."

She unscrewed the caps of both bottles and switched them.

Ahh the power of over-analyzation to confound a simple result.

That was great, thanks for that. :)

I still like the one about NASA spending millions developing a pen that could write in zero graviry and extreme cold. the Russians just used a pencil.
Simply is better. :D

Yes, I remember that one, LOL!! Sometimes we get so caught up in what we've accomplished...the obstacles overcome, the rivers forged, the mountains climbed...that we fail to recognize what others regard as obvious. This is why, sometimes, a collaberative process toward problem solving is favorable over blindly running with our ideas solo.

You're welcome, DMI!

I think it was Leonardo DaVinci who said, "Simplicity is the world's greatest sophistication."

I could not find the quote on a brief search, so I may be crediting to the wrong author. I did, however, turn up another quote that I think is worth sharing:

"Although human subtlety makes a variety of inventions by different means to the same end, it will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple, or more direct than does nature, because in her inventions nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous. - Leonardo DaVinci

I like the idea of a T-shirt for our site saying

"Simple Is Better"

That is sooo true.

Anyone with any design skills out there willing to volunteer? :)

I also thought of a possible good one:

Got Ideas?

Get Advice at InventorSpot.com

We have a little t-shirt store that we have sold almost nothing on and think we'll improve when it finally makes it to the top of the to do list but I always keep thinking one day, we'll hit on a great inventor t-shirt slogan.

"Caution- Out of Box thinker at work"

"Inventors do it better"

"Ssshhhh...I'm having a lightbulb moment"

"Inventors + problems = Solutions"

"Al Gore invented the internet. I invented everything else"

"Have you hugged your Inventor today?"

Bravo, Roger. Those are so good you've got me thinking about ideas for shirts.

"I invent, therefore I am!"

"To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk."
- Thomas A. Edison (1847 - 1931) [with Edison's image on the front like the Einstein shirts]

No words, just an image of the statue "The Thinker" contemplating a box.
[or maybe with a small font caption for the graphically challenged "Out of box thinker"]

"Got Patents?"

"Inventors do it different." [Plagiarism is in my blood, Roger]

"Idea Pending"

"AHA!"

Hi Road Show.

I really like your "Idea Pending" Maybe Michelle could have a contest where we can vote on all the phrases people send in and the winner gets some proze.
I am sure others here can tap their creative side and come up with some good slogans.
