Love the presentation tidbits ... 2 minutes is limiting !
I believe I read in forums as you walk into the room hand over your paperwork, intoduce youself and state your number than say nada and set-up ( in my case 15 seconds of time ) and then say I am ready.
Does that still hold true ? Sounds crazy but I really need those precious extra 15 seconds. Too many benefits with my invention ... difficult to eliminate any. Will also provide judges a handout of my pitch that lists benefits in more detail.
Also what happens if you get tongue-tied and you need the lost time to present your idea ? Do they 'play the music' and politely escort you off the stage ?
I am practicing till it is etched in my mind.

Are you saying all you benefits are roughly equal? That spells out no major benefit for me. Lots small advantages usually can’t make a product sell; one major benefit can.
Give out hand out is a good idea, yet don’t count on it. If a judge read all the details on your list in your two minutes, that means he is not listing to your. If you want to make a list, high light the one or two major benefits and just list rest of them in normal

your presentation will make or break your chances. Remember the judges have no idea what you have and the benefits it carries, It's up you to present that to them and make them understand all in 2 minutes.baxter wrote:No, they are not equal ... You are making him too nervous. Baxter will do fine, prepare your pitch and practice in front of a camcorder and friends. Watch your own tape and ask your friend to correct you. Don't just practice privately, talking in front of public is a different, practice ease out the shocking effect.

My 2 cents is that my invention had some extra perks with the design too but with the 2 minute timeline, I concentrated on the major reason it was great. That was on the main pitch to get a, go on pass. I lamented in the waiting room, thinking I should have added all the info, but knew too much is overwhelming for anyone. Luckily they liked it enough put us through. Even with the print outs, I did not cover all on it. One judge said no because he did not hear the rest of the reasons it was great during the filming...but the rest of the panel saw the potential, but said it could be marketed differently than I stated.
On the print out which they kept..all 4 of them, I hoped they would be read more thourougly to see all the design suggestions. So when they took me to the Edison room after we got the Yes from the TV group, I made sure to add most of the extras, so the other store reps would see most of the big picture. I did not even realize we were being filmed there and my daughter said they said 10 more seconds, which I passed with talking more than that. Even handed out the small protypes to the group after I went over. They were liking it, so I guess my faux pas was Ok.
But with that said, maybe getting an assistant to go to help is a good thing to help get you more time for the thinking instead of the doing..I was glad my little girl did the handouts and such.

Well I was at Dallas, had gold pass, got right in line didn't even take a minute, have all paperwork filled out and this speeds things up. Waited @ 10 minutes guycomes up and determines if your an edison or a thomas and I was an edison, then he takes both groups and then you wait in line, I saw I think 10-15 judges, presented, they all smiled an shook there heads, then I went to other room where you # is shown if you make or a no go and I made it took to green room about 30 minute wait, said lawyers were looking over the paperwork. Then my # is called and I walk in to a filming room 4 judges on a raised plat-form, lights camerea action... I gave my pitch got 4 yes's only 3 were needed, then got my congrats letter and girl took my proto-type and that was that. Did hear from Edison Team that even though your selected you might not make the show, that last year 80 "ideas" got bought before show even aired. These people have MAJOR connections and if your idea is HOT who knows you won't have to be on TV to be in the big time!

I made the top 50 and mine didn't get bought so I'm not sure if you got your info straight. I would not wanna give people false hope thinking if they make it past the first round they are gonna get a licensing deal for sure.

I wasn't implying that they would get a deal. I was stating what I was told in the green room that after the casting in the cities, they go back and then they review all that made it and then thats where their contacts come into play. Sorry if I confused anyone.

I was there when the guy talked about the 80 people from last season. He definatley said that alot of people walked away with deals as a result of auditioning- even if they didn't make the show. So ideasthings heard it right. Of course you can't count on anything when you audtion- except a days worth of entertainment! Really meet some nice people, and the whole experience was great fun.
