Controlcenter, "DIY stands for Do It Yourself". DIY products are usually products that don't need a professional to install or be involved in most cases. The DIY industry is huge and has many different markets. It has gotten much larger during the bad economy. People/Family's are doing more home projects on there own to save money by not having to hire a professional.

The DIYer market is endless....Building/Remodeling cooking shows etc educate the non professional person.

Retailer's like Ace Hardware & True Value have grown in leaps & bounds over the yrs. Without the DIYer consumer they could never survived or grown. The last few yrs have been tough for the smaller hardware chains with the economy the way it is.
A few months ago I was in my local Ace Hardware to my surprise there selling Sears/Craftsman hand tool wrenches,screwdrivers,etc,. Sears/Craftsman are a perfect example of DIYer products. Just so happens the pro's use there tools also due to the LifeTime Warranty and quality.

In the 1970s, when home video (VCRs) came along, DIY instructors quickly grasped its potential for demonstrating processes by audio-visual means. In 1979, This Old House, starring Bob Vila, premiered on PBS and started the DIY television revolution. The show was immensely popular, educating people on how to improve their living conditions (and the value of their house) without the expense of paying someone to do it or hiring a professional..
Bob Vila set the stage for all the other DIYer Home/Renovation TV Shows/Magazines/Web Sites.

Im not 100% sure but I would say cooking shows like the Food Network were built on Julia Childs reputation. Yrs later Emeril Lagasse came out of the wood work and put a BAM,BAM effect on the industry.

so if I would try to submit my invention: Aurin â„¢ - Intelligent 8 Outlet Power Distributor to Everyday Edisons Season 4 Casting Call it would not fit to: hit hardware, tool or DIY product.
Do you think it would fit to home, kitchen and bath innovations ?
