I've found it hard to run a business.
How do you publicize the innovative products and market, sell them?
Is there any book about that?I want to learn.
Any suggestions?Thanks a lot.

Hi Sara,
You need to work with Distributors and the Buyer's for Retail Chain Stores,it all depends on the bussiness model you take after.
if you want to be at the Manufacturing end only or work to whole chain to the Retail Buyers.

Believe it or not is some cases I take a very good prototype plastic made in China,to a Buyer for a Retail Chain store before I invest in any more time and effort in the new product before (any Patents or Tooling),there is no point busting you know what if you cannot get your new product past the buyer's for chain stores. This way you can work backwards through the chain Retail Distributors and Manufactures, you can also go direct from Manufacture to Retail but that is harder because you need to build a relationship with the Buyers for Retail, the safe option is to work with their current distributors.

Sometimes here in Australia Retail buyers will not work with you unless you have a whole range of products to supply, the retailers aim to reduce to accounting costs by having less invoices to deal with.

How does it work in the USA anyone tell me?,from what I have heard there are lots of hidden margins from everyone envoled like commissions for people who should not be getting them? is that true or not?

Regards
Derek Pater

Hi Sara,
It's also all about networking, contact's,relationships and friendships, The old saying it's not what you know but who you know carries a lot of weight in Bussiness. Getting on the T.V is also great for your new bussiness I know it has made a big difference for me.

Maybe some other members could reccomend some books for you, Harvey Reesce who has Licenced more than 100 new products has some great books, these are more for the Inventor, I like his attitude in the Book's he is happy to share his knowledge in a balanced way which is very good.

Do some internet searching, like my friend says the Internet is the great leveler, it keeps people honest to a point.

Keep your overheads to a minium, this will make your new bussiness strong into the future

:D

hello, havn't been here for a long time
I'm reading a book these days ,i think it's interesting and useful,so i came to share with you because you give me suggestions and help me a lot.
the book's name is the 5-sencond inventor
here are the chapters,
Here are the chapters
Chapter 1: invention of new products, customizing existing products, and how an inventpreneur can do both
Chapter 2: market research, assuring that an invention will have an interested target audience
Chapter 3: patents and protecting intellectual property
Chapter 4: prototyping methods and packaging design
Chapter 5: finding and evaluating overseas manufacturers
Chapter 6: screening test to identify the best manufacturers—applicable for US and overseas companies
Chapter 7: cultural exchange and knowledge vital to doing good business in China
Chapter 8: product distribution, pricing, and retailers—finding the best way to sell an invention
Chapter 9: public relations, advertising, and marketing
Chapter 10: customs and shipping strategies
Chapter 11: working with business partners and other tips to stay on budget and on track

it's tired to type,lol.

Here are the details about the book copy from amazon.
Countless great products have failed to show up on the market because the "creators," average people with five-second flashes of inspiration, didn't know what to do with their ideas. The 5-Second Inventor gives these people a step-by-step guide through the process that professional developers use to produce and market products, but focuses on self-production. Ken Chuah uses his own experiences to help the beginning "inventpreneur" (an inventor/entrepreneur) with low-budget strategies, a unique screening test to pinpoint the best manufacturers, and an in-depth chapter on understanding Asian culture for the outsourcing inventpreneur. The 5-Second Inventor streamlines the process of converting ideas into products, emphasizing self-production rather than licensing deals. A reader will learn to identify his or her idea's potential with market research pinpointing the potential product's target audience. For security during this and the development process, The 5-Second Inventor covers different types of patents, non-disclosure agreements, and other ways to protect intellectual property. For the production phase, it outlines strategies for minimizing the initial startup budget. This includes the pros and cons of overseas manufacturing and information for the inventpreneur who chooses an overseas manufacturing partner. Ken gives advice for working with different types of retail buyers, such as big chain stores or online retailers. The 5-Second Inventor gives guides for publicity, marketing, and methods of selling one's innovative product. Written in layman's terms for people new to the invention industry, The 5-Second Inventor is the perfect guide for beginning inventpreneurs.

off to read it.

I suggest you go for online marketing, the best method of which is SEO or search engine optimization. It is a cost effective method of promoting and advertising your services and products to a global audience.
