For all those creative folks who have come up with an invention idea, there are several good places to start learning about the invention process and the world of inventing.

One of the best and cheapest ways to start, is to being with Myra's Invention Blog.

We also have a whole section with information in our Inventor Information section. It is packed with links to articles and samples and tips on pretty much all aspects of the invention process.

Another good thing to do is read the books out there on Inventing. We have a section with recommended books you may want to consider.

If you need to work with someone on your invention, we recommend you do a serious amount of research on the company before you work with them and especially before you pay them anything. We have a list of service providers who specialize in helping inventors in our Inventor Service Provider Directory. In that list, there are some folks who have been screened that may be good to do further research on who we call our STAR SERVICE PROVIDERS.

Then, of course, we have our Inventor Forum. It is not a good place to begin as it will be overwhelming at first. And the info will all seem a bit piecemeal if you don't have a basic understanding of the whole process. But it is a great place to ask specific questions or get feedback from active inventors and inventor advisors.

Just don't annoy everyone and ask "I have an invention idea, what should I do" as the answer will be get off your lazy butt and start learning before you do anything.

And as always, my favorite article is "The Brutal Truth About the Invention Process".

I still haven't finished describing the process yet but

http://sites.google.com/site/mississipp ... -to-invent

will describe a straightforward method for inventing when I'm done with it in the next few weeks.

Here are the steps that I have identified:
STEP 1) Start an inventor notebook.
STEP 2) Obtain a Lawyer-Approved Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
STEP 3) Build a $10.00, 2hr. quick prototype.
STEP 4) Do a 4hr quick search to find what is like it.
STEP 5) Figure out how much your invention is worth to a company. (Most Important Step!)
STEP 6) Write a pitch.
STEP 7) Build an improved prototype.
STEP 8) Pay for a prior art search.
STEP 9) Patent Opinion and Application
STEP 10) Pitch it to a company OR start your own company.

I am writing the details with links on how to do each. Hope this helps!
