I agree the section may die out. It has to do with the lack of discussion, don't you think? Are they the only questions? Can the answers really be that easy?

I think somewhere up front it should say "read these FAQ to help phrase your question better". I always saw a FAQ as a "don't ask a simular question twice" on other forums. I don't think that is the culture here and we may want to impart that up front before we kill any new posts by new people. How many new threads have been started since the FAQ that are not part of that section?
Another byproduct is I always felt that I had to read everypost ever written before I could post a question. I am too lazy to do this. Do we want to send this message? Or do others not get the same message?

Deja vu, Randy?

Remember when Michelle asked in the on the Vote and Get Votes thread whether or not we should have a FAQ's section? I stand by my response and the time...we are watching this happen just how I imagined it would.

It is obvious that a FAQ section would cut down on redundant posts by newbies, but I don't agree that that would be a good thing.

Let's assume that we put up the best FAQ section anyone ever could for the newbie. What would compel that person to participate in the forums? I dislike answering the same questions over and over, but at least it is the personal touch this brings that would be lost with an "effective" FAQ section.

I hate to say "I told you so," but...

IMHO, we should narrow a list of FAQ's proposed here to about 20 to 25. That way they are "Frequently Asked Questions" and NOT "Every freaking question a person could think to ask at 3 am in morning because they can't sleep from being so excited about a ground breaking invention they just though of".

Hey guys, I hear what you're saying. It does't surprise me that a bunch of new questions have been thrown up at once. I don't expect that to go on forever.

I can honestly understand the gut reaction to discuss the FAQ answers. But that would defeat the purpose. I have to insist that people will find other things to talk about in the other forums, as this list gets more and more complete. And, there's a good chance that discussions elsewhere on this site will be fresh, and will maintain the interest and curiousity with this site.

This list is only meant to be a resource. I don't think this FAQ forum will have anything but a very positive effect on the site. If people can rely on this place to get the latest answers on hot topics, from different perspectives, then it's just one more reason to keep coming back here.

But, if any of you have ideas for ways to add to the value (by using the features and functions available with this bulletin board program) then I'd definitely like to hear about them.

For example, like Work2XL suggested in one of the question topics, post temporary responses. That way we can carry-on a discussion, but then 'clean-up' after ourselves, by deleting our own posts within say 3 days. Then, the value of the forum is maintained, and people can socialize.

How would that be?

(If it's too much to ask, then how difficult would it be to just start an interesting discussion in a different category?)

Hi Admin or Scrupulous

With the resent number of new repeat questions that are appearing in the forums I was wondering if this section needed to be updated :?:

Usually the summer months are a slow time on the Internet, maybe this would be a good time to review & clean up a few topic threads.

Maybe keep the Important Information & discard the non-useful Information.

It also might be fair to give fair warning to website members if the website edits & makes changes to the website :?:

2&1/2 hours after I posted this suggestion Roger Brown posted the new topic thread about a new website with 24 hour monitoring & technical support :?

Very Interesting :?:

X, yeah I will definitely be cleaning this section up a bit. It's actually pretty darn good...

I'll give the originators of some these topics a chance to convert the title into the form of a direct question, which is answered in the thread...

Within about a week I'll go ahead and change any that haven't been already.
