I know there are pleanty of Scam companies out there to "help" get you started, but I don't want to go there. I researched the market and no one has my specific product idea. It is simple to manufacture, but can be improved. Are there legitimate companies out there that will help develop this product with no cost out of my pocket? I realize I would be giving up a percentage of my take, but i don't have the resourses. What can I do?

As much as this thread seems out of place here, this is a Frequently Asked Question, so perhaps if the thread's title was edited this would fit in well here.

Off the top of my head, the Big Idea Group, http://www.bigideagroup.net, is one company that works with inventors on a "pro bono" back-end basis.

Evergreen IP is another such company that people have said good things about within this forum - conversation can be found here - viewtopic.php?t=348

Realize however, that companies like this as well as private investors tend to be very selective. Inventors who say they have a great invention that is unlike anything else in existence, and who are looking for "pro bono" work to help them license their invention - they come a dime a dozen. And often, their inventions are not easily marketable and/or unique, despite what they say or believe. So, even if yours is very marketable and very unique, its up to you to set yourself apart from the pack.

The US government has been keeping a tally on some of the inventor scams out there.

Before you give your idea, sign anything, or hand over a dime, check this list:

Bad boys are denoted with the white circle.

Dr Nat, a Guest Blogger, has written a helpful piece you can use to help screen out the Scam Companies.

Her article is Why Invention Submission Companies Are Still In Business if They Are Not In The Business of Getting Your Products to Market
