Improving existing product by making power operated

If a product currently is patented and I seek to improve it by adding a power source vs the current manual operation, would this be considered patent infringement?

Hypothetically you could patent a new device which utilizes an additional power source, or you could perhaps patent a "method for powering" the original device. However, if the original product is patented and the patent is in force, it is possible that you would not be able to market your invention without infringing that patent...
