Has anyone ever heard of Patent Assistant Worldwide? If yes, please let me know weather they are good or bad.

This email comes to you "Better late than never!" Re Patent Assistance Worldwide (P.A.W.)
Since your original posting we've had several requests for info about P.A.W. in Florida and it's parent GLP Licensing from inventors around the U.S. Many invention submission companies are actually two companies, one for the grunt work and big bucks. After phase one is completed the invention is route to their second company for licensing "help." Smart move. If under attack blame it on the other entity sparing one of them, in my personal opinion. In GLP's case, their domain registration indicated it is owned by P.A.W. so it may only be a D.B.A. (doing business as) entity as no corp found in Wyoming or Florida for them.
What we know is the average upfront fee asked for is betweem $4,900 - $12,500 with an initial "Let's Get Going" fee of $1,200-$1,400 (Search and "Portfolio").
An inventor was told the $1,400 was for an "Innovation Guide" and "Attorney research fees." Many of us know the term Portfolio is used by numerous invention submission companies which, in my personal opinion, denotes binders of outdated, ambiguous (generialized) market research containing data, later collated, found for free on the web as it's so old, IMPO.
One inventor complaining of not having $1,200 alleges the fee was dropped to $400.
An attorney used to write patents is Intelliplex (Jay Schloff has been named) in MI. Another invention submission company uses them too if my memory serves me correctly - though it has been known to fail occasionally
I've also noted on eight published applications instead an attorney or agents name in the section, "Correspondence Name and Address" the name Jim Montgomery, 8th Floor, 5201 Blue Lagoon Drive, Miami, FL 33126. That is the address for P.A.W. No Jim Montgomery is listed on the PTO site as a registered U.S. Attorney or Agent. It might appears they have something legal going on inside P.A.W. too.On their domain registration noted is the name Jim Montgomery as their Administration and Technical contact. He may well be their owner but this is not known for sure as so far it is no where to be found. For $129 or thereabouts D&B will provide a comprehensive report about them.
Some inventors allege and/or understand they work on a contingency but we have not, as yet, found a single substantiated case of anyone being offered such a service. What we have found is the following on their (P.A.W.) website, "Our licensing affiliates will assist you in marketing your new product innovation on a contingency fee basis!" A likely translation is: corporation #1 (P.A.W.) collects big bucks upfront for the grunt work while their Licensing arm (G.L.P.), corp #2 is free!!!!! Ho-Hum!

I thought the name rang a bell. I belive the name is actually "Patent Assistance Worldwide". I googled them along with the word "complaints" and found this link:

Now I know the elusive George M is actually George Montana. From the case it appears an employee grievance since Fair Labor Standards Act is the basis of the suit and Denial of Overtime Compensation.

Patent Assistance Worldwide has been helpful to me so far. I spoke with my rep. today from the company and they stated that my idea has been "accepted" to go into production. They are suppose to call me tomorrow with a cost for me to invest and then mail me a proposal. I am approaching this with caution. When I receive the proposal it will go to my lawyer for review. However, anything I've looked up about this company has not given me negative results. So, I'm going to go ahead with the company unless my lawyer advices against it. I will let you know how it goes, but for now it seems good with this company.

Here's something to consider:
If a company is/has been that successful marketing/licensing products would it not make "cents" they would invest their own resources and money therefore get a lion's share on the backend? Either they know what they are doing or they do not.
In the old days all we did was pick up a phone making a connection to potential licencees directly. We didn't need binders, DVDs, flashy paperwork. A sell-sheet was about it and sufficient market research to know what we talking about and what they wanted before "lifting up a phone!" Cost? A phone call!!!
IMPO, when a company seeks monies upfront to "give their best efforts" to "try" to license/market products only as long as they are paid in advance then in my personal opinion I would have to add such companies to my suspect list ----but that's me.
Usually I expect to hear from inventors approx one to one-and-a-half years after they paid and are now broke. They look at what's in front of them, piles of documents and fancy covered binders and what do they have? Mounds of paperwork and a strained bank account.
Anyone ever heard of an invention submission company turning down an invention? Duhhh!
Hopefully inventor's pick contract lawyers to peruse these types of agreements as most have jolly good laughs after which they produce a red pen then the fun begins.

Be carefull with contract laywers, I use a family friend who is brilliant a specialist only charges me $500- a contract, one of my clients was hit in the past $14,000- for a Contract that is useless, so get their fee's upfront, they must be reccomended to you and only get them to draw up the contact, not do the deal !
or find someone with a proven track record of Deals.
