A bit of a challenge! Am at my wit's end. Just Google " J H Apjohn windscreen wiper " and you will get references similar to "the method of moving two vertical brushes up and down on a glass windshield was invented by J H Apjohn in 1903" - and around the same time Mary Anderson patented the swinging arm wiper. Where did this comment about J H Apjohn originate? Has anyone heard of the inventor J H Apjohn? Some references claim he is American.
My reason for asking is that I am almost beginning to think it could be my g.g.grandfather, a British civil engineer, James Henry Apjohn, who in the early 1900s had retired and was fiddling about doing bits and pieces and had later patented work on clutch and variable speed gears (1915). I just want to rule him out - or in !!
