can i patent a circuit

i know that i cant patent the parts such as capacitor and certain chips in a circuit schematic but can i patent a full circuit schematic for my invention?, or do i even have to as long as i have a design and/or utility schematic and explain in detail what it does.

An invention is a process. A “process” is defined by law as a process, act or method, and primarily includes industrial or technical processes. A process is the way an invention performs rather than the way it is structured. Computer software performs a certain way, it makes certain processes. In my last invention, I only had to submit a block diagram showing the "process". But yes, you can patent a new circuit too.
