Dripless Ice Cream Cone Concept

Hi, my name is Jason and I am new to the Inventorspot and this is my first "Official" post on this forum. I am the sole inventor of an entirely all new concept, in which I am trying to submit to the marketplace. The product is a Dripless Ice Cream Cone, which prevents the melting ice cream from flowing all over your hands and clothing. Unlike most standard cones, this one has a edible outer wall rim molded onto the main cone, designed specifically to catch and control the excess overflow of ice cream, allowing the consumer to enjoy the cone in a more casual manner. I came up with the concept back in 1998, received a patent in 1999, and now on the hopeful brink of getting it launched into the marketplace. I have recently hired a marketing licensing company to represent my product, but soo far haven't located a buyer. I now have a little over a month left of representation before my contract expires. As the days wind down, I hope and pray for the positive news that I hope will come soon. My name is Jason and this is my story.

Hmmm, how effective is it? Have you field tested a prototype?

Jason, have you looked at the other devices that are already out there to make sure yours is unique? I have seen plenty of holders made from plastic such as these

The company that has it now are they an invention submission company? If they are can you post their name? We might be able to give you some info on their success rate.

Hi Roger. Thank you for submitting the patent design variations. I too have seen similar cone design concepts that catch the melted ice cream, but they were mainly plastic holder sleeves designed for the standard existing cones. In my Patent Design D 414,590, it is a all in one frame, where the entire cone gets consumed. The melted ice cream fills up in the trenches that circumvent the main inner cone. Once the consumer reaches the rim of the cone, the melted cream can be drunken or poured out, your choice. This cone can also be used as a sundae cone, where you can add any kind of toppings without making a mess.

There are competitors? This is a good thing. If you can make yours better and cheaper it'll be an easy sell. I would do 2 things to license this product:
1) I would personally make a few dozen, and get pictures of people using them.
2) I would also get the most popular competitors product and show A) their product B) a normal cone and C) mine side by side. I'd scoop some ice cream into each and allow the decision makers to hold each in their hands.

I have made several prototype models of my invention, using real Ice Cream. I then took videos & snapshots of the ice cream melting into the outer cone trench. I have already submitted sample photos and drawings of my prototype cone model to the Licensing Company that is currently representing me. The wheels have been put into motion, so all I can do right now is sit back and hope for the best.

Creative Group Marketing Licensing is the company that is representing my product. They specialize mostly in Toys & Games, but deal in other projects as well. Their greatest achievement is the highly popular 'Airzooka" air gun bazooka, which was launched back in 2003.

Jason, I too am new to this site. I read your story and have a few ? What has happened with the DICC during the past 10 years? Was your patent issued within a year of your filing back in the 90's? Wow!
I would recommend you let the clock run out with this so called marketing company and you do a little research and get 10-15 companies to call and see if there is a potential licensing deal out there. If there is interest, there is a possible deal. It's to bad 1/2 of you patent life has expired and you are still sitting with the idea in your lap. You must have a tiddy sum of $$$ tied up (spent) if you have paid the attorneys their portion of the work you have done! I just graduated from the Inventright course and already licensed a product within the first 4 months of the course. It was a blast and I am working on two other deals that I hope to have under contract by March. Their system is wonderful. I am new to this forum/blogging stuff but I find it very interesting in how people are getting or trying to get their products to market. I am always trying to educate myself about the licensing game and these blogs are very educational. I have a friend who just fired up a couple yogurt stores in northern NV. and maybe your DICC's could work in that arena to start with and you could give a store some (like 200+) free samples to test the market. Just a thought. Anyway, good luck with the cones and I will stay tuned for any updates.
